European Mobile Laboratory Unit performs Diagnostics at the current Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak in Guinea

The European Mobile Laboratory team arrived at the site of their mission in Guéckédou, to perform molecular diagnostics for Ebola Virus.

The European Mobile Laboratory Team arrived at the site of their diagnostic mission bringing with them over 400 Kilogram of sophisticated diagnostic equipment and laboratory supplies. The laboratory was set up and the team began to test patient`s blood samples for the presence of Ebola Virus by using molecular diagnostic techniques. Blood samples are handled under strict biosafety conditions in the biosafety cabinet (glovebox) that the team set up.

By performing diagnostics in close proximity to patients and in the affected region, valuable time is saved for obtaining test results in patient`s blood samples.

The European Mobile Laboratory was deployed upon request by the WHO and it`s GOARN (Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network) mechanism and works under WHO leadership.
